The concept will replace the Arts Theatre in Marble Arch.
London is home to world-class theatres. The Arts Theatre is set to undergo refurbishment and reopen as Marble Arts. As the theatre celebrates its centenary, here’s a look at the exciting plans for this Marble Arch venue.
With just 350 seats, it is one of the smaller theatres in the West End. The venue first opened on 20 April 1927, and was a members-only club for the performance of unlicensed plays. Among its many highlights, it hosted the first English-language premiere of Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot. Since then, the theatre has remained firmly on the cultural map, welcoming shows such as SIX and The Choir of Man.

Now, the original venue will close for a 24-month refurbishment and reopen as Marble Arts. The project is led by Louis Hartshorn and Brian Hook, who plan to create a new 550-seat theatre.
Planning permission has been granted, and construction is due to begin this summer. While no programme has been announced yet, the venue is expected to host a mix of brand-new productions alongside established smash hits.
Louis Hartshorn, CEO of HH Productions, said: “It is a joy and a privilege to build a new theatre in London. We estimate that we will entertain half a million people here over the next two years alone, maintaining the programming and spirit of the Arts Theatre and keeping as many of our incredible staff team together as possible. We’re honoured to be bringing a cultural offering to the iconic Marble Arch.”
