The emirate’s first fully underground metro line will link historic districts, future developments and major transport networks across the city.
Dubai is pressing ahead with another landmark infrastructure project. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has approved the Dubai Metro Gold Line, a major new addition to the city’s public transport network that is set to reshape how residents and visitors move across the emirate.
Backed by an investment of approximately AED 34 billion, the Gold Line will stretch 42 kilometres across 18 stations and will mark Dubai’s first fully underground metro route. The project reflects the emirate’s long-term ambition to support population growth, connect emerging communities and strengthen its position as one of the world’s most future-facing cities.

The Gold Line will connect with the Red Line at Business Bay and Jumeirah Golf Estates, the Green Line at Al Ghubaiba, and Etihad Rail at Meydan and Jumeirah Golf Estates. In doing so, it is expected to enhance mobility not only within Dubai, but also between Dubai and the wider UAE. The route will serve 15 strategic locations, including Mina Rashid, City Walk, Business Bay, Mohammed Bin Rashid City, Nad Al Sheba, Meydan, Al Barsha South, Jumeirah Village Circle and Jumeirah Golf Estates.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum stated: “Dear brothers and sisters, today we announce Dubai’s largest transport project; a new Dubai Metro line spanning 42 kilometres, 40 metres underground. This new route will connect 15 strategic locations in Dubai, serving 1.5 million people and supporting mobility across 55 mega development projects currently under construction.”

Beyond the scale, the project also stands out for its pace. Sheikh Mohammed has directed the immediate commencement of the project, with inauguration scheduled for 9 September 2032, a timeline said to be 30 per cent faster than the delivery of the Dubai Metro Blue Line.
The Dubai Metro Gold Line is projected to benefit more than 1.5 million people by 2040, with daily passenger numbers expected to reach 465,000 thereafter. It will also support more than 55 development projects, reduce pressure on the existing Red Line, and help cut over 40 million road journeys annually.
For a city that has built its reputation on scale, speed and ambition, the Dubai Metro Gold Line feels like the next logical step.
