The project was initially announced at the World Government Summit 2025 with updates in this year’s edition.
Dubai is no stranger to ambitious projects. From skyscrapers to gravity-defying architecture, the city’s skyline is a true spectacle. While its iconic buildings often steal the spotlight, Dubai’s transport system has also been making waves. With ongoing metro expansions, plans for flying taxis, rail buses, and more, the city had also set its sights on Dubai Loop, an underground tunnel system designed to revolutionise transportation. And now, more details have been unveiled.
The Dubai Loop promises to transform how people move across the city. Designed to offer a high-speed, efficient alternative to traditional road travel, the system will feature 19 stations along its route. With a capacity to transport up to 20,000 passengers per hour, it will become one of the world’s fastest and most efficient transportation networks. The goal is to reduce travel time, ease traffic congestion, and provide a seamless commuting experience.

The Dubai Loop will have several key features. Unlike surface transport, which is often affected by weather conditions, the underground system will provide a reliable and uninterrupted travel experience. It will rely on electric Tesla vehicles, ensuring a sustainable and quiet ride while reaching speeds of up to 160 km-per-hour to cut down commute times.
The first phase of the project, announced at this year’s World Government Summit, will include the construction of a 6.4km pilot route, comprising four stations. These stations will link DIFC and Dubai Mall with further expansion in the next phases. Expect the loop to extend up to 22.2 km and include 19 stations, connecting DWTC and Business Bay to the initial stations.
The tunnels built will be 3.6 meters wide which safety being a priority. Elon Musk had earlier emphasised that tunnels are among the safest places to be in case of earthquakes or extreme weather conditions and these will be constructed to serve that purpose as well.
The Dubai Loop is set to redefine mobility in the city, as announced at the World Government Summit in 2025. This futuristic project will use high-speed Tesla vehicles to transport passengers seamlessly under some of Dubai’s busiest areas. The announcement came on the 2025 summit’s final day, with Elon Musk and the UAE’s Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, Omar Al Olama, making the official declaration.
More details on when Dubai Loop will be completed are yet to be unveiled, but the first phase will take about a year from commencement.
