The first phase of this project has been unveiled.
Saudi Arabia is undergoing massive development and Riyadh seems to be at the forefront of the changes. The capital had been preparing for the first phase of the Riyadh Sports Boulevard Project. This ambitious endeavour promises a revolutionary shift in Riyadh’s landscape, blending elements of recreation, culture and a commitment to healthier living. And now, the first phase has been completed, opening to the public.
The Riyadh Sports Boulevard is currently 40 per cent complete which means over 83km of the venue is now open to visitors. This first phase marked the opening of five destinations within the boulevard, such as Wadi Hanifah, the Promenade, the first phase of Sands Sports Park, a section at the intersection of Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Road and Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz Al-Awwal Road and the Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University internal loop.

Wadi Hanifah, spanning over 13 kilometers, will pass through the Diriyah Gate featuring pathways for pedestrians, cyclists and much more. Equestrian trails and rest areas also form part of this development which connects to the Promenade via the Cycling Bridge.
Next up is the Promenade, which spans 4 kilometres and features designs inspired by Salmani architecture. Expect cycling tracks, walking tracks, playgrounds for kids, water features, and much more.
The Sands Sports Park, located in close proximity to the King Khalid International Airport, offers cycling paths, mountain bike trails and BMX tracks for those who love the thrill. But if scenic routes are more your thing, then this venue also promises beautiful hiking and equestrian trails.
The intersection of Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Road and Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz Al-Awwal Road will be home to the Arts Tower. This landmark takes inspiration from the high-voltage electricity towers that were once on Prince Mohammed bin Salman Road. Featuring geometric panels that reflect sunlight, this will be a key attraction within this 300-meter space.
Lastly, you can also visit the 20km loop at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University which has got cycling and pedestrian tracks.
Once complete, the Sports Boulevard will comprise 4.2 million square metres of green open spaces for nature enthusiasts and fitness lovers. With walking, cycling, and horse riding tracks woven into its design, this space will encourage Riyadh residents to lace up their sneakers and embrace the great outdoors.
Nestled at the heart of the Sports Boulevard is a 20-square-kilometre desert park. From event venues and show piazzas to outdoor museums and movie theatres, this entertainment hub promises family fun.
Riyadh Sports Boulevard is not just a feast for the body, but for the soul. Adorned with landmarks and public art installations, every corner tells a story, and every sculpture sparks imagination. By infusing art and culture into its DNA, this project seeks to create an immersive experience.
The space will also have investment zones, which will be strategically designated areas for commercial and recreational ventures with the aim to create an ecosystem that caters to the needs of both residents and visitors alike.
